Milk and Honey

“the world
gives you
so much pain
and here you are
making gold out of it” -rupi kaur

After being romanticized by the likes of Instagram and Tumblr, Milk and Honey found a permanent place on the shelf next to my bed in December.

It found a place in my heart soon after and I found myself poring over each page in an attempt to devour every word almost as if I feared its escape. Some of my deepest fears and emotions were captured in the matter of sentences. Sometimes I selfishly believe that it is for my eyes only as I take in each word like it is the breath in my lungs that keeps me moving forward.

There is life in these words
Sweet and painful memories
Each a cathartic experience
as my soul yearns for the relinquish
of the pain that binds
